On Sunday, 28 July 2013 Saleha Soadat wrote that within the first four months of the current year, over 2,500 cases of crimes against women had been registered with the Commission. “Increasing cases of violence against women has the Human Rights Watch (HRW) as well on edge. It has expressed trepidation over the absence of stringent laws in the country that ensure protection of women. Violence against the women in Afghanistan is not a new phenomenon, but the rate at which it has started scaling new highs has alarmed the human rights institutions and activists.”
